There are connections beyond the obvious! Expect many interesting innovations in our Agaia center soon 🚀☀️🍀 Insulin resistance can start long before blood sugar rises. It can start… in the gut. More and more scientific data and more and more cases in our practice show that in many people the metabolic problem does not start with the pancreas, but with impaired digestion. We often observe the following sequence: Impaired digestion → change in microbiome → change in gas production → endotoxemia → low-grade inflammation → insulin resistance → mitochondrial dysfunction → change in RQ, RMR and metabolic flexibility. When food is not broken down and fully digested, it reaches the intestines poorly processed. This creates conditions for overgrowth of certain microorganisms, increased fermentation and gas formation. Some of the bacterial endotoxins can pass through the disrupted intestinal barrier and maintain chronic low-grade inflammation. Namely, chronic inflammation is one of the main links between impaired digestion and the development of insulin resistance. An often overlooked fact is also interesting. The pancreas performs two vital functions:

• produces digestive enzymes needed to break down food;

• produces insulin and other hormones that regulate blood sugar levels. These two functions are carried out by different cells, but are part of the same organ. When the pancreas is subjected to prolonged inflammatory and metabolic stress, it is not uncommon to see disturbances in both its exocrine function (digestion) and endocrine function (blood sugar regulation) over time. Therefore, in people with insulin resistance, we often also find reduced pancreatic elastase, digestive disorders, changes in the microbiome, or evidence of overfermentation in the small intestine. Maybe it's time to stop looking at metabolic disease as just a blood sugar problem. Much more often, they result from impaired communication between the digestive system, the microbiome, the pancreas, the immune system, and the mitochondria. A healthy metabolism starts with healthy digestion.
