The truth about insulin and protein – and why balance is key
🧬 The truth about insulin and protein – and why balance is key 🥩🍚
Many people believe that insulin is only released in response to carbohydrates. The truth is that insulin is also secreted after protein consumption – albeit by a different mechanism. The pancreas perceives amino acids as a signal and also secretes insulin to transport them and "unlock" their access to cells.
📊 As shown by the study of Holt et al. (1997), foods such as fish and beef elicit an insulin response comparable to bread and rice, even though they contain no carbohydrates!
🔄 This reminds us that insulin is not an enemy, but simply a "transport hormone". The problem is not in insulin itself, but in its chronic overstimulation, lack of movement and caloric excess.
✅ Instead of extreme regimes with high proteins and no carbohydrates, it is better to approach moderately and strategically:
Maintaining caloric balance
Choosing slow carbohydrates with fiber
Combination of protein + fat + carbohydrate in one meal
Insulin is not to blame for obesity 🫶🏻
